LIKE A BRIDGE OVER TROUBLED WATER
Paul Simon And Arthur Garfunkel In Concert
PAUL SIMON WROTE   "LIKE A BRIDGE OVER TROUBLED WATER" IN 1968.  HE AND HIS DUET PARTNER, ARTHUR GARFUNKEL, RECORDED THE SONG WHICH STAYED #1 ON THE CHARTS FOR 10 WEEKS.  THE SONG IS ABOUT SELF-SACRIFICING LOVE FOR A FRIEND, AND IS ALSO INSPIRATIONAL.

AFTER BEING CLOSE FRIENDS SINCE BIRTH,
THE SINGING DUET BROKE UP PERMANANTLY SHORTLY AFTER "BRIDGE" BECAME A SUCCESS.  THEY WERE ONLY 27 YEARS-OLD WHEN THIS SONG GAVE THEM SUCCESS IN THE MUSIC INDUSTRY.

A DAY OF TRAGEDY...
A BRIDGE OVER TROUBLED WATER
EARLY MORNING, ONE MILE FROM WEBBER FALLS, OKLAHOMA-MAY 26, 2002

TEN VEHICLES, INCLUDING A BIG SEMI, A PICKUP TOWING A  HORSE-TRAILER,  AND PASSENGER VEHICLES,  DROPPED 65 FEET INTO THE MURKY ARKANSAS RIVER.  A FREIGHT BARGE STRUCK TWO BRIDGE SUPPORTS, CAUSING ALL FOUR LANES OF TRAFFIC ON INTERSTATE 40 TO
DROP OFF AND DOWN INTO THE RIVER.

A TRUCKER BARELY ESCAPED THE SAME PLIGHT.   HE "BURNED RUBBER", STOPPING JUST FEET FROM GOING OVER THE SUDDEN DROP-OFF.  HIS TIRES WERE SO HOT THAT THEY LEFT RUBBER ON THE PAVEMENT AS HE REVERSED THE RIG,  BACKING RAPIDLY AWAY FROM DOOM.

SIXTEEN PEOPLE, INCLUDING A THREE YEAR-OLD GIRL, WERE THROWN INTO THE RIVER.
HER BODY WAS THE LAST TO BE RECOVERED.  ONLY FOUR PEOPLE SURVIVED.
THE HORSES ALSO DROWNED.

When you’re weary, feeling small,
When tears are in your eyes, I'll dry them all.
I’m on your side, oh, when times get rough,
And friends just can’t be found.
Like a bridge over troubled water,
I will lay me down.
Like a bridge over troubled water,
I will lay me down.

When you’re down and out,
When you’re on the street.
When evening falls so hard, I will comfort you.
I’ll take your part, oh, when darkness comes,
And pain is all around.
Like a bridge over troubled water,
I will lay me down.
Like a bridge over troubled water,
I will lay me down.
