STAND BY ME

"STAND BY ME" WAS RECORDED IN 1983 BY MICKEY GILLEY FOR THE THEME SONG FOR "URBAN COWBOY."

  THREE SISTERS FROM THE SOUTHERN BIBLE BELT HAD THREE SONS,  BORN IN 1934, 1935, AND 1936.  ALL THREE BOYS WERE RAISED IN THE FERRIDAY, LOUISIANA AREA.  ALTHOUGH THEY WERE FIRST COUSINS, THEY GREW UP LIKE BROTHERS.

EACH OF THESE BOYS WERE RAISED WITH RIGID CHRISTIAN STANDARDS FROM THE ASSEMBLY OF GOD CHURCH.  THE BOYS SANG IN CHURCH EVERY SUNDAY AND DEVELOPED MUSIC SKILLS THROUGH CHURCH SONGS.  ALL THREE

BOYS WERE VERY GIFTED IN MUSIC ABILITIES.

ALL THREE BOYS COULD PLAY THE PIANO QUITE WELL BY THE TIME THEY WERE EIGHT YEARS OLD.  THEIR PARENTS, ALTHOUGH POOR, MADE SURE THEIR SONS HAD PIANO LESSONS.  EACH BOY HAD HIS OWN PIANO.

THE OLDEST OF THE THREE IS JIMMY SWAGGART, NOW A FAMOUS TV EVANGELIST, PIANIST, AND GOSPEL SINGER.

THE MIDDLE BOY IS JERRY LEE EWIS, ALSO KNOWN AS "THE KILLER" WHO GAINED FAME FOR HIS PIANO PLAYING,

ROCK AND ROLL, AND SINGING MUSIC.

THE YOUNGEST OF THE THREE IS MICKEY GILLEY WHO IS

A VERSATILE COUNTRY MUSIC RECORDING STAR. 

HE OWNED "GILLEY'S PLACE" THAT WAS

FEATURED IN "URBAN COWBOY."

POINT TO BE MADE:  THE ONE COUSIN WHO ENDED UP WITH LITTLE TO NO BLEMISHES ON HIS PUBLIC LIFE WAS THE COUSIN WHOM THE OTHER TWO LABELED AS THE QUIET "BLACK SHEEP."  WHEN THE CHIPS WERE DOWN,  THE

"BLACK SHEEP" STOOD BY THE PIOUS AND ARROGANT

TWO COUSINS,  NOT POINTING ANY FINGERS.
